When it comes to the cleaning of canvas
shoes, there happens to be more than one way. But before checking out on
them, one should definitely listen to what the leading brand which makes best
canvas shoes, TOMS store, has to say about
it.
On its online shopping portal, TOMS has given the following
instructions… “We highly recommend hand washing TOMS in cold water with a
gentle detergent and let them air dry. We do NOT recommend putting TOMS in the
dryer under any circumstances.”
You all will be thinking that washing from hands will be a
tough job, and considering those who have treated their canvas shoes to dirt
and mud more often will now be thing of cleaning them as a tiresome job. There
are certain shortcuts to this cleaning process, BUT people you have to be
careful. Putting them into dryer is definitely a NO-GO in any given case, but
they haven’t said anything about giving it a cleansing in washing machine.
What you will need
Here below are certain things that you will need to clean
canvas shoes.
- A Washing Machine
- A Small Brush (a toothbrush works well)
- Baking Soda
- Laundry Detergent
- Water
- Mixing Bowl
- And last but not the least, a pair of dirty Canvas Shoes
Removing the dirt
The first step is to remove the dirt and mud, so take the
small brush and gently rub the surface of you canvas shoe to clean it from
excessive dirt. This will make the stain removing process more easy and
effective.
Treating bad stains
If there are some bad stains on your shoes which you think
won’t be gone in a gentle machine wash so you can treat them with a laundry
stain remover. The process for this is as simple just you do it for normal
clothes.
Cleaning the sole
Make a mixture of baking soda and water, dip the toothbrush
in and gently massage the paste into the sole – when you’re done, wipe them
clean.
Let machine do the talking
Start the machine by running a gentle cycle in cold water.
Add half the amount of detergent you normally use. When the cycle is over, take
out the shoes from the machine and leave them to dry in the air.
YES, let them dry in the air don’t put them in
dryer nor over the vent or any other method to rinse it. If you don’t pay heed
to this warning, you will end up shrinking your canvas shoes.
